New PV Series of infrared photodetectors

We have migrated from the old PD series to a new PV devices that are characterized by better detectivity, close to theoretical limitations, and much faster response, up to GHz range. The devices are based on more complex variable HgCdZnTe structures grown with advanced ISOVPE/MOCVD epitaxial technique and new processing. The operation of the device is quite complex and cannot be simply related to photodiodes nor photoconductive devices. The devices can operate at zero bias or with reverse bias for fast response applications. Current mode will ensure better performance, faster response and less dependence on temperature changes and ageing effects. The devices are operating at ambient temperatures or with Peltier coolers. Some are supplied with immersion microlenses to improve performance and speed of operation.

VIGO System's IR Detectors

1 GHz transimpedance preamplifier

Low noise and wide bandwidth transimpedance preamplifier (10 KHz to 1 GHz, in dependence on detector capacitance) has been developed. The devices enforces DC level that is required for optimized operation of a given type of infrared detector.

Detector for FTIR applications

Newly developed type PCI-2TE-13 photodetector designed and optimised for FTIR applications. This new detector has a wide, 1 to 13 µm, spectral bandwidth and broad linear output range. Detector's responsivity is stabilized with built-in two-stage Peltier cooler, keeping the sensitive element at temperature 220 to 240 K. Performance of the devices has been improved with heterostructure design, optical resonance and hyperhemispherical immersion. Constant voltage bias and current readout should be used for the best performance and linearity. The spectral characteristics of the detector can be modified according to specific requirements. Standard detectors are available in modified TO- 8 packages with BaF2 windows. Other packages, windows and connectors are available upon request.

High Speed IR Detectors

Devices optimised for high frequency applications

VIGO System S.A. uncooled infrared detectors are recomended for response time critical applications e.g.:

  • laser diagnostics for ultrashort pulses from free-electron lasers (FEL) and quantum cascade lasers (QCL).
  • high frequency gas spectroscopy
  • free space optical communication

MOCVD Laboratory

VIGO System S.A. set up new advanced machine for epitaxial layer growth. Technology is based on AIX-200 system made by AIXTRON - world leader in Metaloorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) technology. Laboratory is effect of big investments that VIGO System S.A. made in 2002. It will provide us possibilites to make IR detectors with better performance and quality.
